The Dean Faculty of health sciences Prof. G.Osanja thanked smile train for continued support including full scholarship for four MMED Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic students. every year
The chairman on his speech also thanked smile train for the same and also for microsurgery simulation lab which has great impact to the students
Dr. John Horaczec a consultant Neurosurgeon from Germany gave a talk on spinal pain intervention management in the departmental boardroom on February 29th
On February Prof.ERKKI TUKIAINEN Chief of department, Plastic and Orthopaedics Surgeon from Helsinki University Hospital visited department of surgery. He was received by Prof. Nangole ( Thematic unit head, Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery) and Dr.Nyaim ( Thematic head, General Surgery). In their conversation they agreed to start talks on how they foster collaboration between the two universities Departments.
Neurosurgery is a rapidly growing unit in the department of surgery and to make it a world class a networking seminar like the one organized on 9th December is necessary. The event was graced by Prof. Julius Ogeng'o (DVC Academic Affairs). the neurosurgeons present were Prof Griffith.R.Harsh,Prof.Douglas Kondziolka (Editor-in-Chief of NEUROSURGERY® Publications) , Dr.Julius Kiboi (chairman dept of surgery),Dr. C.K.Musau (neurosurgery thematic unit head) and Dr Michael Magoha among many.
The event was held in the department of surgery on 29th NOV 2023, the main guest speaker was Prof. Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa the Vice-Chancellor of Uganda Matyrs University, Nkozi. The topic of discussion being QUALITY IN SURGICAL EDUCATION: opportunities and challenges in East Africa. Other panelist included Dr.Julius Kiboi (Chairman,department of surgery) Dr. Paul Odula (President, Surgical Society of Kenya). Dr.Karen Mbaabu and Dr Mathenge Nduhiu (both COSESCA country representative)
Student's Surgical Forum (SSF) is a dynamic platform founded in 2018, dedicated to fostering the interest in surgery and enhancing surgical skills among medical students in Kenya. This student-run organization has rapidly grown, now boasting over 950 members spanning across eight prestigious medical universities in the country.
The workshop organized by plastic surgery thematic unit was held on 17 November 2023 in the department seminar room. The workshop was graced by Patrick Mwai (Manager, Education & Training) of Smile Train who sponsored the workshop.
Prof Khainga took his undergraduate training at University of Nairobi and later in the in the same college he took general surgery. He become the pioneer of plastic surgery unit in the department of surgery.
Dr. Michael Magoha was among the guests who were invited to address newly admitted medical students during the white coat ceremony that was hosted by the Association for Medical Students University of Nairobi (AMSUN).
He advised the students to work hard in their studies and always aim higher.
