Dr. Edward Mairura, a Kenyan orthopedic surgeon based in Dallas, Texas in USA donated a set of surgical equipment to the Department of Surgery on 5th January, 2022.
The donation by the orthopedic surgeon at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center included; Stryker Huffman fixators, endotracheal tubes, vicryl sutures, pulse oximitars, and culture tubes.
The donated items will be of great benefit to the anaesthesia unit and also be of used in orthopaedic complex management of compound tibia/fibula fractures
Present to receive the donation were Faculty of Health Sciences acting Dean, Prof. Evelyn Wagaiyu and Department of Surgery Chairman Dr. Julius Kiboi.
The two appreciated Dr. Mairura for his kind gesture saying this would go a long way to help expand technology and skills to improve surgical skill training in Kenya. They requested for Memorandum of Understanding, exchange programs for UoN residents in addition to bringing other surgeons to conduct surgical procedures together at Kenyatta National Hospital as part of long term collaboration.
