The Department of Surgery, University of Nairobi hosted Prof. Steven Schiff, MD, PhD, FACS- a Harvey and Kate Cushing Professor of Neurosurgery from Yale University on 10th June, 2024.
Prof. Schiff is a paediatric neurosurgeon and has carried out extensive work on hydrocephalus in the East African region.
During his visit he gave a talk on current trends in low-field MRI imaging coupled with deep machine learning. He also touched on various aspects of current research progress in hydrocephalus.
Prof. Schiff was bestowed an honorary visiting professorship at the University of Nairobi by the Chairman of Department of Surgery- Dr. Julius G. Kiboi and head of Division of Neurosurgery- Dr. Christopher K. Musau.
Subsequently, he was taken on a tour of the various labs at KAVI, a departmental visit to the Neurosurgical unit at the Kenyatta National Hospital followed by a tour to the neurosurgical theatres and clinics. Also present at the meeting were other members of faculty, Dr. Vincent Wekesa and Dr. Michael Magoha.
The department is proud to be associated with Professor Steven Schiff and the residents will immensely benefit from his extensive knowledge and expertise.
