Prof. Mulimba retires after 45 years of service

Prof. Josephat Mulimba delivers his address when he was hosted to a retirement farewell dinner.

Professor Josephat Mulimba, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon has retired from the University of Nairobi (UoN) after 45 years of service.

He joined the Department of Orthopaedic surgery on 30th January 1976 as a tutorial fellow and rose to the ranks of becoming a professor.

Prof. Mulimba was hosted to a farewell dinner by his colleagues and the 2021 graduating class students on 27th August, 2021.

One of the greatest achievements Prof. Mulimba has left at UoN is the establishment of the Nairobi Surgical Skills Center (NSSC), based at Chiromo Campus.

With support from Prof. Gakuu, Prof. Mulimba approached Johnson and Johnson who funded the construction of NSSC, a state of the art surgical training facility that offers training and development to health care professionals in the East and central Africa region.

In his farewell speech, Prof. Mulimba said he had enjoyed every bit of his stay at UoN and was always proud of his students who he meets everywhere he goes in Kenya and abroad.

Present during the farewell dinner was Prof. Julius Ogengó, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs.

He wished Prof. Mulimba well in his retirement saying he will continue to be an important member of UoN and will always reach out to him for advice when time calls.

Also present during the event were Prof. Eveline Wagaiyu, Associate Dean Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Fredrick Otieno, Associate Dean Undergraduate Studies Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Julius Kiboi, Chairman Department of Surgery, Dr. Vincent Mutiso, Head of Orthopaedic Surgery unit among others.
