UoN Plastic Surgeons successfully re-implant a completely amputated hand

A team of University of Nairobi (UoN) Plastic Surgeons successfully re-implanted a completely severed hand at the UoN teaching hospital on Saturday 27th January 2018. The operation was performed on a 17 year old boy whose right hand was completely detached when a chaff cutter accidentally came on while he was in the process of cleaning it.

The young man was first seen at Kiambu County Hospital from where he was referred to KNH where the 7 hour operation was performed. The UoN surgeons who participated in the surgery were; Prof SO Khainga and Dr FW Nangole, assisted by budding Plastic Surgeons Dr Alex Okello and Dr Kenneth Aluora. In the photos accompanying this narration, the university surgeons are seen being congratulated by the KNH CEO Mrs Lily Koros and the Director of Clinical Services Dr BM Githae.

A team of doctors from the University of Nairobi (UoN) College of Health Sciences and Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) achieved another historical medical milestone by successfully re-implanting a hand of a 17-year boy that was accidentally chopped off by a chaff cutter machine.

Paediatric Surgery Workshop and Symposium organized by Kenya Association of Paediatric Surgeons (KAPS) in collaboration with University of Nairobi (UoN)

The objective of the workshop and symposium was to enhance or impart skills of management of AnoRectal Malformations (ARM). In the operative part of the workshop held at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) two patients with ARM were operated on every day from Monday 6th November 2017 to Friay 10th November 2017.
