Department of Surgery Marks Official Handover of Chief Registrars

The Department of Surgery recently hosted its annual handover ceremony to transition clinical and administrative leadership among its Chief Registrars. The event commenced with a review of the outgoing cohort's achievements under the leadership of Dr. Isabella Kenty. To honor their dedication to optimising patient care and maintaining strict clinical discipline, all outgoing registrars were awarded Certificates of Excellence. Leadership duties were then formally transferred to Dr. Mboya, who pledged to sustain these high operational and training standards.

The institutional significance of the event was highlighted by keynote speeches from the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The Dean, a distinguished general surgeon who worked closely with Dr. Kenty (also a fellow general surgeon), drew upon her successful tenure to offer practical clinical counsel and emphasized aligning clinical responsibilities with academic excellence. The Associate Dean then provided critical insights regarding undergraduate student mentorship and academic progression.

Following the faculty leadership addresses, the Chairman of the Department of Surgery  who worked closely with Dr. Kenty—delivered key directives on departmental operational efficiency, using the outgoing team's milestones as a future blueprint. With Programme Director Dr. Michael Magoha steering the event as the Master of Ceremonies, the ceremony also included insights on sub-specialty management from the Orthopaedic Thematic Unit Head. The milestone transition concluded on a celebratory note with the official cutting of the handover cake.
