The Department of Surgery congratulates Prof. Ferdinand Wanjala Nan’gole on his appointment as Chairperson of the Board of Management at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Prof. Nan’gole is a senior plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the Department of Surgery and currently serves as the Thematic Unit Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Under his leadership, the unit has continued to strengthen specialized services in plastic and reconstructive surgery, including microsurgery and wound care.
The Department of Surgery (Orthopaedics) from the University of Nairobi, in collaboration with the Cottolengo Society, conducted community health services at Tuuru Children’s Home on 16th and 17th March 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The University team was led by Dr. Gakuya, an orthopaedic surgeon, alongside a team of medical personnel and students who provided assessment, treatment, and health education to the children and surrounding community.

The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nyaim Opot as Chairman of the Department for a three-year term, effective September 2025. He succeeds Professor Ojuka, who has been elected Dean Faculty of Health Sciences.
Prof. Daniel K Ojuka was elected Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences on August 27, 2025. He has been serving as Chair of the Department of Surgery since December 2024
A respected general surgeon and academic leader, Prof. Ojuka has made significant contributions to surgical education and research. His vision and dedication will now benefit the entire faculty as he takes on this new role.
