Members of the Department of Surgery participated in a Cleft Surgery Camp held at Kapenguria County Teaching and Referral Hospital from 29th to 31st August 2018. A total of 32 patients were operated on free of charge courtesy of the Kenya Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (KSPRAS) and Kleft-Kinder-Hilfe of Germany.

Staff within the department offer community service through a number of avenues.

Members of academic staff took a prominent part in the annual Surgical Society of Kenya surgical camp.  This took place in North Rift region between 27th and 30th September 2012.  Dr. Owillah as the chairman of the Society led the surgical teams.
