The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 200 million girls and women globally who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a result of which their dignity and self esteem may be negatively impacted. It is this realisation which motivated Dr Adan Abdullahi of the University of Nairobi (UoN) Department of Surgery to form an organization called Restore Pink Plus whose main objective was to perform reconstructive surgeries to restore form and function to those affected.

His organization organized surgical camps at Mama Lucy and Karen Hospitals in Nairobi in April 2017. Restore Pink Plus collaborated with Clitoraid of USA to treat about 50 affected women at minimal cost. Several local surgeons received training on how to perform the surgical procedure. Restore Pink Plus plans to hold these camps annually and also to role out the service to the whole of Kenya and the  East African region. In the photo accompanying this news item is Dr Adan Abdullahi and Dr Marci of Clitoraid.
