Thematic area description:
For many years we have offered cardiothoracic teaching for undergraduate students as part of the MB ChB curriculum. This has been as a unit within the department of surgery. In 2013, the unit commenced formal training of a Master of Medicine (MMed) in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Similarly the unit was elevated to a thematic unit with a unit head responsible for coordination of unit activities.
The first two years of the MMed programmes are common accross all the post graduate programees offered in teh department. Students then diverge into their specific areas on the third year of study.
The MMed programme currently has four trainees in various years of training.
Aspiring students are invited to apply and those with Master of Medicine in General Surgery can apply for credit transfer and join the programme in part II.
